Examinations
With a view to improving the reliability, validity and objectivity of education and to bring about a close integration of teaching and testing, St. Francis has devised an integrated evaluation system that is based on continuous assessment and an end semester examination with a ratio of 30:70. The continuous assessment can take various forms such as class tests, assignments, book reviews, seminars, group discussion, group presentations, laboratory work, project work and other activities. Under this system, regular attendance by itself could earn marks. Students will be informed well in advance about the forms of assessment and the system works well, encouraging students to put in regular hours of study.
Continuous Assessment
Continuous Assessment test is compulsory and will be held as per schedule and is of one hour duration. In addition to the scheduled test, continuous assessment includes other assessment forms scheduled by the concerned course teacher. Students are expected to put in regular attendance and take all the scheduled tests. A test for absentees will be conducted only for those candidates deputed by the college to participate in Inter State / All India Sports / NCC / NSS activities.
Semester Examination
The end semester examination of 2 hours 15 minutes duration is evaluated out of 70 marks and will be in the form of a comprehensive written exam. External experts set the question papers and external examiners evaluate the answer scripts. Model question papers will be provided to students and examiners. Students of VI semester will be given a chance to clear any backlog papers they have in the subjects of V semester during their VI semester exams to enable them to complete their course on time. However, no supplementary exam will be conducted for any backlogs they may have in semesters I and III since they have already been given a chance to clear them.
