Welcome to the Department of Chemistry

The Chemistry Department is one of the oldest departments in the college. With the introduction of M.Sc in Organic Chemistry in June 2011, the department is poised to make inroads into research. The laboratories are well-equipped and well maintained and offer tremendous opportunities to explore the world of Chemistry. The curriculum is innovative and the teachers use the latest teaching aids to make student learning an enjoyable experience.

Highlights

  • National festival Amalgam 2011 organized to Celebrate the International Year of Chemistry.
  • The department organized a UGC-sponsored National seminar on “Nanomaterials - today and future” on January 8th and 9th, 2009.
  • The faculty of the department are actively engaged in research, paper presentations and publications.
  • A UGC-funded Major Research Project “Synergism of nano particles, nanoclay and polymers: nanocomposites - preparation, characterization and applications” is also in progress as a part of the departmental research activity.

A two year Masters Degree programme in Chemistry is being offered from the academic year 2011 – 12 to provide scientific support and trained personnel to the industry and to meet educational and research needs in the field of Chemistry
