Welcome to the Department of Psychology

The department of Psychology was started in the year 1973 under the guidance of Rev. Sr. Valeria D’Silva. Under her leadership, the department grew in leaps and bounds and successfully established psychology as a scientific discipline with laboratory sessions. Psychology is one of the most popular subjects in the Arts faculty at St Francis College.

The department also runs a Counseling Center that provides a wide range of counseling services to the students. The counselor at the center uses a holistic approach to help the students cope effectively with stress. Psycon

PSYCON is an active club dedicated to enhancing the experience and appreciation of psychology among students through a variety of social and educational activities. The club provides a stage for the students to study and explore the current issues and trends in the field of psychology.

EVENTS

September 10, 2011: World Suicide Prevention Day The Psycon Club members conducted a short awareness programme for the staff and students. Club members distributed handmade bookmarks, each with a unique inspiring quote.
October 10, 2011: World Mental Health DayThe dept. of Psychology organized a lecture by eminent Dr. S. Bhaskar Naidu and Mr. C. Venkat on "Importance of Counseling in the field of Mental Health".
November 2011: Field TripA one-day field trip to Greenfields Centre for Outdoor and Development Programmes has been organized for students of BA Psychology and PG Diploma in Counseling.
